엄미술관에서는 2022년 가을을 맞아 <고요한 빛 ∙ 아름다움의 회상> 전을 기획하게 되었습니다. 20C 초 한국 근대 미술사에 빛나는 예술가 7인의 주옥 같은 회화 30점을 마련하고 그 고상한 아름다움의 미덕을 증언하고 있습니다. 

이들은 일제 강점기에 망국의 설움과 억압에도 불구하고 인간의 삶의 진실을 구현할 자유로운 시대 정신과 예술 의지로 강렬한 창작 의지를 보게 됩니다. 그리하여 이들 예술가들은 변화와 도전을 갈망하며 전통과 현대의 문화적 현상을 예술 실험으로 자유분방한 정신을 소환해 회상하고자 합니다. 

이 작품들은 우리들의 삶의 미적 빛을 발하는 성스러운 유산입니다. 이러한 아름답고 소중한 예술작품의 재회의 기쁨으로 그들의 얼굴에서 역동성과 창조적 생산성을 유발하며, 내 이웃을 생각하고 인간들을 서로서로 환대하는 아름다움의 공간에서 그 속에 담겨진 아름다운 영혼을 내가 반갑게 맞이하는 재회의 시간이 될 것입니다. 

아름다움은 망설이는 자이며 늦둥이입니다. 
아름다움은 순간적 광휘가 아니라 나중에 나타나는 「고요한 빛」입니다. 이런 소중함 덕분에 아름다움은 품위를 지니게 됩니다. 아름다움은 오래오래 천천히 걷습니다. 

 
Tranquil Light - Reminiscence of Beauty

Um Museum is pleased to present Tranquil Light - Reminiscence of Beauty, an exhibition with thirty beautiful paintings by seven key Korean artists from the early 20th century. The exhibition is a witness to the elegant beauty of these artworks. 

The artists in the exhibition present a strong creative will to materialize the truth of human life despite the sorrow and oppression during the Japanese colonial period with a liberated spirit and artistic will. As such, these artists yearn for change and challenge, and they show attempts to recall the free spirits of traditional and contemporary cultural phenomena through artists experimentations. 

As a result, these works are a sacred heritage that illuminates the aesthetic light of our lives. The joy of reuniting these beautiful and precious works of art generates dynamism and creative productivity. The exhibition will offer a beautiful space where we reflect on our neighbors and welcome each other, reuniting with the beautiful spirits embedded within it. 

Beauty is one that is hesitant and one that comes late. 
Beauty is not a momentary brilliance but a ‘tranquil light’ that emerges later. Such preciousness leads beauty to have dignity. Beauty walks slowly, taking a long time.
